Our castle is a remarkable place of a friendly village called Szeleste situated along main road No. 86, 15 km far from Szombathely. In a beautiful milieu the Castle Hotel can be found in the heart of a 13-hectare-large botanical garden.

The construction of the building began in 1855, and finally it was completed by Count Andor Festetich, who owned the building and the adjoining lands from 1872. He established the marvellous botanical garden as well, where he collected more than 500 species of plant rarities and created the terraces around the Castle. In 1910, the propriety was passed into the ownership of Baron Mihály Baich, who maintained methodical horticulture, so the serpentine path leading to the Castle was built up and the building obtained its present image. Due to its recent restoration the more than 150-year-old ancient Castle preserved its authentic ambience. However, its modern services meet even the highest requirements of our age.

In the 1950’s, a rousing fire destroyed the main part of the Castle building, only the headwalls remained undamaged. As a result of the reconstruction works began in 1990, the Monument obtained its definitive image in 2001.

During romantic promenades the visitors can admire specific abietineae in the botanical garden mostly.

Our guests have a chance to simultaneously enjoy the peacefulness and romance of the botanical garden and the adventure of the spa water breaking out of our own well!
